Campers targeted at storage facility

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP | Porter County Sheriff's police took reports of four campers broken into, damaged and thefts from two on Thursday afternoon.

All four were parked a storage facility at 296 N. Ind. 2.

One victim reported his 40-foot travel trailer was entered through a window. Stolen were two televisions and a stereo, combined total value of $1,300. The thieves also caused some $1,250 damage to the trailer, including damaging a third television.

A second travel trailer was entered, damaged and a television, valued at $250, was taken. Damage to the camper was estimated at $250.

Two other trailers also were broken into, and while nothing was reported missing, damage estimated at $1,700 was done to the two.

 

Thefts reported from unlocked vehicles

Porter County Sheriff's police took several reports of items stolen from unlocked vehicles on Thursday.

In Liberty Township, a resident of the 200 block of Papillon Drive told police someone took a radar detector, flashlight and sunglasses from her vehicle overnight while it was parked in the driveway.

In Westchester Township, a resident of the 200 block of Paul Revere Court reported someone took a pizza delivery warming pouch and vehicle registration, insurance card and owner's manual from his car overnight.

In Jackson Township, a resident of the 200 block of Stone Ridge Court reported $15 in change, an Illinois iPass, a knife and a jacket were taken from his unlocked vehicle overnight.

In South Haven, a man reported that someone entered his vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot of the South Haven Public Library, 403 W. County Road 700 North, and took a purse, a learner's permit, two bank cards, nitroglycerin pills and a pack of cigarettes.

 

Man arrested for public intoxication, intimidation

PORTAGE | Brandon Sutherland, 28, of Pleasant Township, was charged with public intoxication, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a police officer Thursday afternoon after he refused to leave Aaron's Sales and Lease, 6038 Central Ave.

Employees of the business called police after Sutherland allegedly refused to leave the store and appeared to be intoxicated.

Sutherland allegedly refused police orders to leave the business and refused to enter a police car on his own after being arrested.

After being medically cleared from a local hospital, Sutherland also threatened the police officer who was transporting him to the Porter County Jail. His blood alcohol level was .37. A BAC of .08 is considered legally intoxicated in Indiana.
