Portage man flees police after striking car
PORTAGE | A Portage man was charged with operating while intoxicated, fleeing law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident early Wednesday morning after he sideswiped a car in the Walmart parking lot.
Frank R. Caposey III, 27, was arrested just after midnight. According to the police report, Caposey sideswiped a car in the parking lot and kept driving. The victim followed him. Police said Caposey also struck the curb several times until his two passenger-side tires were flattened. When police arrived, Caposey left his car and began to run. He was caught by police as he attempted to run across U.S. 6.
Caposey allegedly told police he had drank a bottle of wine and went to the retailer to buy another. His blood alcohol level was .17, more than twice the legal limit.
Games taken in burglary
PORTAGE | A resident of the 5400 block of Aspen reported to police Tuesday night that someone had entered his home between April 17 and Monday night and stole several items.
The man said he had been out of town and didn't realize the items were missing until later. There didn't appear to be any forced entry into his home.
Missing were 15 various Nintendo DSI games, a watch, camcorder and DVD player, valued at $725.
Vehicle reported stolen
PORTAGE | A resident of the 5900 block of Sundance Trail reported to police Tuesday morning that her red 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 had been taken from the apartment complex parking lot. The truck was valued at $3,500.
Items stolen from vehicle
PORTAGE | A resident of the 2700 block of Airport Road told police early Wednesday morning she saw a man use a 20-pound propane tank to break the passenger front door window in her vehicle parked outside her home.
The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. The man allegedly took two purses including various debit and identification cards and $28 in cash. Police also found a bicycle in a ditch along Airport Road just north of the residence.
Air conditioner unit stolen from home
CHESTERTON | A resident of the 1200 block of Bostwick Drive reported to police Tuesday morning that someone had stolen her air conditioning unit from her home.
The resident said she was doing yard work when she noticed it missing. She said the last time she noticed the unit was last fall. The unit was valued at $3,200.
Purse stolen from vehicle
CHESTERTON | A resident of the 1500 block of Park Avenue reported to police on April 15 that someone had stolen her purse from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in her driveway over night. She later found the purse in a wooded area near her home, but a pair of $12 sunglasses were missing.
Vandalism reported at Valpo construction site
VALPARAISO | Police are investigating a report of vandalism at the new construction area next to 610 Porters Vale.
Security workers on Tuesday reported a portable toilet was damaged, and roofing nails were found scattered at the site, although there are no roofing projects currently underway.
Police: Man admits being naked while taking out the trash
SOUTH HAVEN | Porter County sheriff’s police are seeking charges against a South Haven man who told officers he was naked when he took out his garbage.
Police were notified Tuesday morning by a woman who was driving in the area of County Road 700 North and McCool Road. The woman told police there was a man masturbating in front of a home. When police arrived at the house, the man told officers he had just gotten dressed. Police are requesting a warrant for the man’s arrest on charges of public indecency and public nudity.
