PINE TOWNSHIP | A newly married Michigan City woman was killed in a crash in Pine Township on Tuesday afternoon that left her husband critically injured and her young daughter with two broken legs.
Jacquelyn Reed, of the 100 block of Pinetree Court, was pronounced dead at the scene, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said early Wednesday.
Reed's 24-year-old husband remained in critical condition Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Harris said. Her 5-year-old daughter suffered two broken legs in the crash and was airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
The child remain at there Wednesday morning, Harris said.
Harris said Reed's husband was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus east on U.S. 20 near County Line Road with Reed in the passenger seat and her daughter properly restrained in the back seat at 4:29 p.m. The vehicle crossed the center median into westbound traffic on icy, slushy roads.
A westbound 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer struck the Taurus broadside, killing Reed and injuring her husband and daughter.
The driver of the TrailBlazer and her three passengers were transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Michigan City with nonlife-threatening injuries, Porter County police said Tuesday.
An 8-year-old, 3-year-old and an infant were among the injured passengers in the TrailBlazer, police said.
