Invited by the Discovery Art Program, Mitch Markovitz came to Discovery Charter School to talk about South Shore Poster art and what it meant to the Duneland community. Markovitz is a professional illustrator and fine artist. He is best known for the "Just Around the Corner" series of the South Shore Line posters in Northwest Indiana. Markovitz also worked 21 years with the railroad as a trainman. He shared stories with the fourth grade students; from the history of the line, its importance in his life and art, to why the advertising posters for the South Shore RR continue to be popular today. His visit is the beginning of a month-long project for fourth grade. They'll each create a South Shore Line poster of their own which will be exhibited at the Beverly Shores Train Depot Museum this spring and summer.
