PORTER | Children and their parents are invited to attend the Field Station’s Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Applications will be accepted beginning at noon.
The Field Station is a nature-based, not-for-profit organization that is committed to teaching students to become more aware of their surrounding environment. Children at the Field Station will experience discovery through art, exposure to the wonders of nature through daily outdoor activities, language enhancement, dramatization and poetry, creative movement and dance, introduction of math and science skills through plenty of hands-on learning, and all appropriate skills needed to prepare them for kindergarten.
Being a cooperative, the Field Station is an organization founded, maintained and administered by the parents of enrolled preschool students. It is a place where parents can be involved in a unique, quality educational program for their children. The school employs teachers who are assisted in the classroom by parent volunteers. Parent committees are involved in all aspects of running the school.
The Field Station is located at 399 Howe Road within the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and is surrounded by trails, the Little Calumet River, wetlands and prairie. Visit fieldstationkids.org or call (219) 926-2500 for more information and for directions.
