PORTER | Porter County, Porter County Parks and Recreation and SEH of Indiana will host an open house to gather public opinion on the rehabilitation of the Calumet Trail.
The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. April 3 at the Dunes Visitors Center. All interested parties are invited to learn about the project and weigh in on the proposed improvements. This open house is the first in a series of three public meetings that will be held at key project milestones.
SEH of Indiana is under contract with Porter County to provide engineering design services for the westernmost two miles of the 9.1-mile trail, from Mineral Springs Road to approximately Tremont Road.
The design of the trail will meet guidelines and reference recommendations from the August 2009 Calumet Trail Revitalization Feasibility Study. The reconstructed trail is expected to follow the approximate alignment of the existing trail unless changes are necessary to meet technical or experiential criteria.
