Authorities released the names Tuesday of the five men who fled an officer during a traffic stop that led to a high-speed chase and eventual crash Monday afternoon.

Marijuana, packaged for sale, along with guns were found in or near their wrecked vehicle, police said.

All five fled from the car and were arrested after a short chase. One was apprehended by Dolar, a Porter County Sheriff's Department K-9 officer.

Arrested were:

-- Nathaniel Carter, 22, of Merrillville. He was initially charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana, resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a permit.

-- Calvin Tansil, 22, of Merrillville. He was initially charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana, resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a permit.

-- Breyon Waton, 19, of Merrillville. He was initially charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana, resisting law enforcement, carrying a handgun without a permit, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

-- Alante Sharp, 20, of Merrillville. He was initially charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana, resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a permit.

-- Tyrell Bailey, 20, of Gary. He was initially charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, carrying a handgun without a permit, maintaining a common nuisance and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to authorities, an officer spotted a silver Oldsmobile Alero driving 52 mph in a 40 mph zone about 3:10 p.m. in the area of U.S. 12 and Liberty Street in The Pines.

Police said the driver, later identified as Bailey, stopped briefly at Virk's Mart Convenience Store and the officer initiated a traffic stop, but when the officer stepped out of his vehicle, the Alero sped off.

He fled south on Ind. 520 and then west on U.S. 20. Police said Bailey drove at speeds up to 120 mph and several times drove west in the eastbound lanes.

At County Road 450 East Bailey almost hit a semi, and at Tremont Road he ran a red light, almost striking several vehicles crossing the intersection, police said.

Twice, Bailey avoided Stop Sticks deployed by officers.

Police said as Bailey sped through the intersection of U.S. 20 at Interstate 94 he lost control of the Alero, which spun around and hit the concrete median.

Police said all five men got out of the car and ran south toward Shelton's Discount Fireworks.

One officer said Tansil, when approached by officers, began running in circles. He was shocked with a Taser, but kept pulling away from officers. The officer swept his legs and applied a drive stun with a Taser to his neck, at which time he began to cooperate, police said.

Police found 33 one-ounce bags of marijuana in Watson's pants pocket, along with a digital scale.

About 5 feet from the car, officers found a loaded Rossi .38 Special Revolver, and a loaded Glock 22 .40-caliber handgun was found in the truck. Police also found 28 grams of marijuana in a glass jar in the Alero, and an additional 14 ounces of marijuana in one-ounce bags in the car.

More than $1,000 in cash was confiscated from four of the men.
