PORTER | A 57-year-old Lowell man was struck by a car Monday afternoon as he worked as a flagman for Superior Construction.
Porter police said John Starcevich was working on Beam Street in the area of Interstate 94.
Police said Jason Shubair told officers he did not see the construction zone as he approached the area, then looked down at his radio before striking Starcevich.
Starcevich was taken to Porter Regional Hospital and was treated for a broken leg and head injuries.
Charges are pending the result of toxicology tests.
