Purse stolen from car
PORTER | A Porter woman reported to police Friday afternoon that someone stole her purse from her car.
The woman said she had stopped at Pat's Liquors, 1 West U.S. 20, to get a bag of ice. After she paid for the ice, she and her husband went to retrieve the bag from the cooler and during that time, someone took her purse from her unlocked car.
In addition to personal identification, credit and other cards in the purse was $2,000 in cash.
Vehicles broken into along Pearson Road
PORTER | Two residents of Pearson Road reported to police Friday morning that their vehicles had been broken into overnight while parked in their driveways.
A resident of the 900 block of Pearson Road told police the left rear window of her car was broken out and there were two pry marks denting the body. The damage was estimated at $1,000. She later called to say her purse was taken from the car.
A resident of the 700 block of Pearson Road told police two unlocked vehicles in his driveway had been entered. Missing were miscellaneous bank and identification cards and a wallet.
Four arrested in Pine Township
PINE TOWNSHIP | Four men face charges after being arrested early Saturday morning at a home in Pine Township.
Porter County Sheriff's police responded to a call of a physical disturbance at 1:30 a.m. at 3640 Henry St.
There they found four men drinking in a garage.
William Zitt, 49, of 3640 Henry, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disorderly conduct; Lawrence Zitt, 18, of 3640 Henry, was charged with minor consumption; Curtis Glancy, 18 of LaPorte, was charged with minor consumption and Steven Knoll, 20, of Monticello was charged with minor consumption and disorderly conduct.
Hammond man arrested for intoxication at Porter County Fair
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP | A Hammond man was arrested Saturday evening for disorderly conduct and public intoxication in the parking lot of the Porter County Fair.
Christopher Finley, 21, told police he had been drinking prior to coming to the fair, according to a police report.
Finley was allegedly obstructing traffic just before 7 p.m., sitting in the middle of the parking lot. A portable breath test indicated Finley registered a .33 blood alcohol content level. It was decided he should be transported to the hospital and was combative with medics during the transport. He was restrained and sedated due to his aggressive behavior, according to the report.
Jewelry stolen from home
PORTER TOWNSHIP | A resident of the 400 block of County Road 500 West reported to police Friday evening that someone had forcibly entered his home, ransacked some rooms and stole jewelry.
The man told police that as far as he could tell two necklaces, valued at $200, were taken.
Five arrested in residential burglary
SOUTH HAVEN | Three men were arrested Friday in regards to a burglary Friday.
Two juvenile females were also arrested.
Porter County Sheriff's police received a call Friday morning from a resident of the 700 block of Timberline Parkway. The resident told police that someone entered her garage overnight and stole three laptop computers and two iPhones.
She gave police a suspect's name.
Police eventually tracked down the suspect, Christopher Pickering, 18, of 399 LaHonda Drive, South Haven, at a residence in Camelot Manor Mobile home park in Portage. Pickering was charged with felony burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At the residence in the 1000 block of Camelot Manor, police also found and arrested Hayden Schmillen, 18, of 3002 Kimberly St., Portage and John Vann, 18, of 764 Acadia, South Haven. Van and Schmillen were charged with aiding in a burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
When police arrived at the home in Camelot Manor, they found various items of drug paraphernalia, including smoking pipes and a digital scale.
Two female juveniles were also at the home and were taken into custody.
