PORTER | The Porter Town Council recently appointed town consultants, including Haas & Associates and Global Land Surveying for engineering work, Hodges & Davis for attorney services and Jim Mandon for planning matters.
Council President Elka Nelson recommended two financial consultants. Umbaugh & Associates would be added for forecasting and planning to Cender & Co. which has provided consulting services for the town for a number of years.
Greg Stinson said he would like to discuss services with Umbaugh first so there is not overlap between the two consultants, but would encourage the council to sign the contract with Cender.
The council also approved Judy Chaplin for the Tri-Town (Porter, Chesterton, Burns Harbor) appointment to the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Commission.
It also approved an interlocal agreement for maintenance of the Dunes Kankakee Trail.
Patty Raffin from the Porter Park Board thanked the fire and street departments for installing an ice skating rink in Hawthorne Park, although Public Works Director Brenda Brueckheimer reported someone had vandalized a corner of the ice and destroyed the surface.
She said the Fire Department would be adding another layer of ice to the rink so people can skate during daylight hours. Because the rink is not lit there is no skating after dark for safety purposes.
The council approved an INDOT traffic light project at Tremont Road and U.S. 12 and as part of the Gateway Project, the town also voted to install decorative poles.
