PORTER | The Porter Town Council thanked Stephanie Miller on Tuesday night for her 20 years of service. Miller is retiring as park assistant
Board member Rob Pomeroy said Miller was invaluable to the community.
“Every time she rented the community building at Hawthorne Park you knew every detail was covered," Pomeroy said. "She planted the flowers every spring, she planned and executed events like the Easter egg hunt and Boo Bash every year, and she maintained the park so it was always immaculate. The families and children were fortunate to have Stephanie."
The public enjoyed a cake in her honor and Miller commented that she would miss her work with the park.
“I’ve enjoyed the last 20 years tremendously," Miller said. "It’s a fulfilling position. I’ve heard children laughing, hosted family parties, and there have been a lot of improvements made at the park over the years. It has given me great pleasure watching it grow. I wouldn’t have changed a thing."
Local resident Robin Davis held her wedding at the park after meeting Miller, she said.
“Because of her, I decided to get married here and she helped with everything. Our friendship has endured and she is a heartwarming person to me,” Davis said.
In other business, the board elected Elka Nelson as president and Jeannine Virtue as vice president.
