PORTER | A fisherman found a woman's body floating in a small lake in the town of Porter early Sunday, according to Indiana State Police.

The location is the same area where a search was conducted in January for Teleka Patrick, a missing female doctor from Kalamazoo, Mich.

About 7:10 a.m. Sunday, a local fisherman called Porter police to report something suspicious floating in Lake Charles at the town park.

State police and members of their scuba team, along with Porter Fire and Rescue members, responded to the scene. A female body dressed in dark clothing was recovered from the water.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the identity of the woman. Officials plan to use fingerprints and dental records to identify the woman because the body was decomposing.

Harris said the woman is black, but officials could not determine an age range.

There were no obvious signs of trauma, Harris said. A more thorough examination this week will determine what contributed to the death, he said.

Police previously searched the area for Patrick, who has been missing since December. Indiana State Police, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department and the Kalamazoo office of the FBI searched the lake but did not find anything.

Patrick, 33, was last seen Dec. 5 after she was dropped off in the parking lot of a medical center in Kalamazoo where her car was parked. That same night, Indiana State Police found Patrick's gold 1997 Lexus ES300 abandoned on westbound Interstate 94 just east of the Porter/Burns Harbor exit.

That exit is adjacent to Lake Charles.

Patrick was reported missing Dec. 6 after she failed to report to work.

Kalamazoo authorities said detectives were looking into the possibility that the body found Sunday could be that of Patrick, but had not received official confirmation of the identity.

WOOD TV News 8 in Kalamazoo reported Sunday that Patrick's mother told reporters the woman found was her missing daughter. However, another family member later told WOOD TV the family is waiting for official confirmation.

WOOD TV was provided a statement from the family.

"Our family was informed that a body was found that may be our daughter Teleka Patrick. We are waiting for official confirmation from the Kalamazoo Sheriff's Department and have no comment at this time. Thank you for your continued prayers — we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time."
