CHESTERTON | Chesterton High School’s radio station, WDSO-FM 88.3, will go back on-the-air for the 2013-14 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 3. This marks the 37th year of broadcasting for the station. WDSO serves the Duneland School Corporation, the entire Duneland community, and also streams on the internet at www.wdso.org. Check out WDSO’s Daily Schedule in the Chesterton Tribune for programming times.

New to WDSO this year...The station will be broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Regular programming will air Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to around 5 p.m. daily with music through the overnight hours and on Saturdays and Sundays.

WDSO plays a variety of music mixing all types of music during each music hour. Afterschool music shows highlight a particular type of music-the choice of the on-air DJ. Request lines are open at that time so you can call in and have your favorite song played on-the-air. No requests are taken between 6 a.m.-3 p.m.

New daily programs will include Bird Note, Insight Daily, On The Money and Sound Beat-each one to two minutes long. Bird Note includes bird sounds and stories coinciding with the time of the year.

Insight Daily highlights lives and works of persons who create pop culture. On The Money will give you financial tips. Sound Beat features the history of recorded sound from the Belfer Audio Archive at Syracuse University, one of the largest sound archives in the United States.

Special community programming returning this year includes Historically Speaking hosted by Serena Sutliff, museum curator; Pet Talk hosted by Dr. Carol Dartz, veterinarian and owner of Arbor View Animal Hospital and her staff; Artful Conversations with Chris Acton, publicist for the Chesterton Art Center and Naturally Speaking hosted by Brad Bumgardner, an interpreter at the Indiana Dunes State Park and Jean-Pierre Anderson, an interpreter from the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Daily programming includes the CHS News & Events; Community Bulletin Board, the Daily Almanac taken from Echoes of the Past from the Chesterton Tribune and Profile America from the U.S. Census Bureau. Weekly programs include the CHS Weekly Report, Porter County Perspective and the Indiana State Police Road Show.

WDSO sportscasters will announce home games during the regular season for CHS Varsity Football in the fall, Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball during the winter months and softball and baseball in the spring. Some post-season games will be broadcast as well.

Student staff members this year include: Co-Program Directors Nathan Babcock (12) and Nick Moreno (12); Co-Music Directors Sarah Duron (12) and Lily Jablonski (12); Assistant Music Director Austin Ballestero (12); News Director Brooke Sauter (10); Training Director-Sean Virden (11); Co-Sports Directors Nathan Dickinson (12) and Laura Hoover (11); and PSA Director Aubrey Christofersen (11).
