WESTCHESTER TOWNSHIP | Authorities believe a Valparaiso tattoo parlor owner charged in January with breaking into businesses in Valparaiso and Portage may also responsible for the burglary of a Westchester Township home.
John Tener, 47, of Valparaiso, is charged with felony burglary.
According to documents filed earlier this month in Porter Superior Court, Tener, incarcerated at Porter County Jail, admitted to the Oct. 14 home burglary.
On that day, Porter County Sheriff's Department officers responded to a home on Indian Boundary Road where a caretaker said she came over to find the home ransacked.
Police called the owners and discovered a rifle and a shotgun were stolen, along with a number of pieces of jewelry.
Valparaiso police questioned Tener who said he knew the couple from an antique store they own and told police he broke into their home and stole items.
