Earning a tournament spot

CHESTERTON — Chesterton Middle School's Robotics Team, the Charging Trojans, competed in the eleventh annual IU Northwest Indiana FIRST Lego League Indiana Qualifying Tournament. The team qualified for one of seven spots in the championship tournament to be held Saturday in Fort Wayne.

S-p-e-l-l-i-n-g their way

CHESTERTON — Westchester Intermediate School students participated in the Purdue 2017 Elementary Spell Bowl competition hosted at Washington Township School. The team won the regional division in the blue class and ranked in the top half of the state. One student, Luke Sparks, got a perfect score and four students Michael Shumate, Sam Macker, Josey Parlock and Shea Ogle got a near perfect score.

Supporting their neighbors

CHESTERTON — Westchester Intermediate School students and staff participated in a community service project collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to donate this holiday season to the local Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry.

Team t-i-e-d for first

VALPARAISO — Washington Township Elementary School's Spell Bowl team tied for first place in the Red division for the State of Indiana out of 120 teams statewide. The team scored 54 out of 56 words correctly. This win is the first state win for the school.
