BOONE TOWNSHIP | The decomposing body of an unidentified man was found Monday afternoon outside Hebron, officials said.

The body was found in a culvert at 5:11 p.m. in the area of County Roads 1000 South and 500 West by a person driving through the area, said Sgt. Larry LaFlower, spokesman for the Porter County Sheriff's Department. He said the area where the body was found is mostly used for farming.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said the man could have been dead for months.

LaFlower said officials don't know the man's age or race because of how much the body had decomposed.

Harris said a forensic autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death and in hopes to identify the man.

LaFlower said it was too early to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
