HEBRON | Valparaiso Pistol and Rifle Club will host an NRA FIRST Step Pistol Course at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at the club, 554 W. County Road 450 South.
FIRST stands for Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training. This course provides the beginning shooter with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to use a pistol safely.
Students will spend about three to four hours at the club's pistol range that follows National Rifle Association range safety guidelines under the direction of five NRA certified pistol instructors covering ammunition, loading, unloading, safe handling and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
The class will be provided the use of the club's pistols and revolvers and .22-caliber ammunition for range instructions. Students can bring their own handgun and ammunition in a case or range bag.
Each student will receive a Pistol FIRST Steps participant packet. This packet contains: NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification program booklet, Concealed Carry Holster guide, and Pistol First Steps course certificate.
The fee is $50 total with $25 deposit due by Nov. 20, and remaining $25 due on Nov. 23.
