PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Porter Township man was arrested Wednesday night after police said he pointed a handgun at his girlfriend, threatened to kill her and her son and fired a shot out his kitchen door.
Richard Day, 53, of 596 S. Ind. 2, was charged with intimidation, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and possession of anabolic steroids. The handgun and 26 other weapons were confiscated at his home.
According to the Porter County Sheriff's Department, Day had been drinking and had asked his girlfriend on Wednesday to buy him more beer. When she refused, he became angry and began to question her about a prior incident.
His girlfriend told police he retrieved a silver handgun, pointed it at her head and told her if she and her son didn't leave that he would kill her and her son.
The woman told police she grabbed his arm and he fired a shot out their kitchen door toward a nearby home.
The woman first went outside to get away from Day, but then went to an upstairs bedroom. The woman called police about 6:20 p.m.
Police said when they arrived at the house they found Day upstairs. He had a Ruger .357-caliber revolver in his pants pocket, they said.
Day denied pointing the gun at his girlfriend.
Police also confiscated a box containing nine vials of steroids from a bedroom.
