CHESTERTON | A motorcyclist was injured following a chain-reaction crash Sunday on Interstate 80/94 near mile marker 23.

The crash happened at 3:16 p.m. as Timothy S. Pendell, 53, of Linden, Mich., was westbound in a 2013 GMC Yukon in the center lane and had to stop suddenly because of traffic slowing after a three-vehicle crash ahead of him, Indiana State Police said.

Evelyn A. Bailye, 76, of Chicago Ridge, was driving a 2006 Buick behind Pendell and was not able to stop in time, which caused her to hit Pendell, police said.

Louis Brown Jr., 56, of Gary, was driving a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle behind Bailye's car and also was not able to stop in time. Police said Brown hit the rear of Bailye's car, which caused him to be thrown from the motorcycle.

Brown, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Pendell and Bailye were not injured.

Police said the westbound lanes of I-80/94 were closed for about an hour after the crash for investigation and removal of the vehicles.
