A federal judge dismissed a Porter County inmate's lawsuit that alleged poor jail conditions, federal court records show.
U.S. District Court Judge Theresa Springmann ordered the case dismissed this week because a previous order mailed to the inmate, Jerome Scott, had been returned undeliverable, court records state.
Springmann said it was Scott's responsibility to make sure the court knew how to contact him.
Scott filed a lawsuit in December against Sheriff David Lain, warden John Widup and Capt. Robert Taylor. Scott claims he was forced to endure "inhumane conditions of confinement," according to the lawsuit.
In court documents, he complained about the jail's conditions, medical care, food, lack of exercise, room temperature and inattention of jail guards. Scott's lawsuit argued the cells are so overcrowded that it is difficult to use the bathroom for fear of urinating on another inmate.
Springmann's order said Scott could refile his lawsuit at a later date.
