KOUTS | The town's three Democratic precinct committeemen will meet at 6 p.m. March 20 at Town Hall to choose someone to fill the at-large council term of Orville Jefferson.
Jefferson resigned last month after being named the town's building inspector.
Declaration of candidacy forms should be filed with the Porter County voter registration office by Friday, said election board Democratic Director Kathy Kozuszek.
To be eligible to serve as councilman, a person must live in the town and have voted as a Democrat in a primary election. The exception would be to have a letter from county Democratic Party Chairman Jeff Chidester approving the candidacy.
So far, Nicole Markovich is the only person to file for the office. The CEB-5 (declaration of candidacy) form is available at the voter registration office in Valparaiso or online at the county website at porterco.org.
Kozuszek suggested potential candidates contact her about the form or if they have questions about residency or voting record. She can be reached at (219) 465-3484.
