KOUTS | The cost of demolishing a building in Kouts is about to go up $20.

The council approved an ordinance Monday establishing a $25 fee for demolition permits. Building Inspector Orville Jefferson said, up until then, the town had no provision for a fee, but he charged $5 to cover the paperwork involved in notifying the county to remove the building from the tax rolls.

Jefferson said the $5 didn't cover the cost of his time, which the new fee does. The ordinance also established a $25 fee to inspect any new electric meter installed on a property.

Both fees will go into effect in 30 days.
