VALPARAISO | Porter County police and the coroner's office are investigating the death of a 9-day-old girl at her Pleasant Township home.
Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said it appears the child died of natural causes, but state law requires an autopsy be done in most cases when a child is 3 or younger.
The child was discovered dead by her parents at 6:15 a.m. and was taken to Porter Regional Hospital, where the official determination of death was made.
The autopsy will be conduced within the next few days in Mishawaka, Harris said.
