Five complete basic training

Air Force Airman Kristopher J. Dulaney, Air Force Airman Khary S. Dailey, Air Force Airman Deron J. Ellison, Air Force Airman Miglissa C. Mercado and Air Force Airman Emily S. Evans graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Dulaney is the son of Denise Rush, of Chicago. He is a 2009 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Dailey is the son of Stanley Dailey, of Calumet City, Ill., and Nicole Bowman, of Milwaukee, Wis. He is a 2009 graduate of Thornton Fractional High School North, Calumet City, Ill.

Ellison is the son of Wanda Graves, of Glenwood, and nephew of Surone Graves, of Chicago. He is a 2012 graduate of Bloom High School, Chicago Heights.

Mercado is the daughter of Magdalena and Alexander Mercado, of Chicago. She is a 2004 graduate of City Baptist High School, Hammond.

Evans is the daughter of Andrew and Cindy Evans, of Crete. She is a 2012 graduate of Crete-Monee High School.

 

Burns completes deployment

Army Sgt. 1st Class Justin T. Burns has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners. Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Burns is an infantry platoon sergeant assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He has served in the military for 12 years.

He is the son of Jeffrey and Lynn Burns, of Valparaiso. His wife, Melissa, is the daughter of Keith and Diane Dennington, of Valparaiso.

The sergeant first class is a 2000 graduate of Morgan Township High School.

 

Lornas is fire inspector

Department of the Air Force Civilian Benjamin M. Lomas has arrived for duty as a fire inspector assigned to the 434th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind.

Lomas has served in federal service for 13 years.

He is the son of Tammy Montgomery, and grandson of Paul and Jeanne Riley, both of Valparaiso. He is also the grandson of Marsha Montgomery, of St. Charles, Ill.

 

Weems completes combat training

Army Reserve Pvt. Alex D. Weems has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

He is the son of Verline and Alfred Weems, of Hammond.
