Black History Month Program

GARY — The public is invited to attend the Gary Public Library’s annual Black History Program at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, 220 W. Fifth Ave. The program is free and will feature a performance titled "The Meeting," written by Jeff Stetson and directed by Mark Spencer of the West Side Theater Guild. Refreshments will be served.

Maple fest setup

Join staff and other volunteers for a morning of stewardship from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Chellberg Farm. This is an outdoor activity so dress for the weather and be prepared to walk in the winter woods. Meet at the main Chellberg Farm/Bailly Homestead visitor center adjacent to the parking lot. Annual gala

New Star, a not-for-profit organization serving children and adults with special needs throughout the south suburbs and Northwest Indiana, will host its annual gala, Hollywood Nights on March 24. New Star, with offices in Chicago Heights, Dolton, Crete and Schererville, will host this year’s gala at Villa Cesare. The gala typically draws more than 300 guests and features dinner, complimentary cocktails, live music and dancing, silent and live auctions plus an opportunity to win a $2,000 diamond. All proceeds will support more than 650 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities residing in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana with job training and employment, daily life skills enrichment, senior care, residential services and special recreation. Delta Theta Tau proudly presents the 26th annual gala to support Opportunity Enterprises, April 7 at the Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel, and Spa in Michigan City.
