VALPARAISO | Officials have identified the inmate who died Saturday at the county jail as 30-year-old Ogden Dunes resident Autumn McIlvain.

An autopsy is planned for Wednesday in hopes of determining the cause of the woman's death, said Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.

Police said McIlvain died shortly after she was dropped off at the jail at 10:15 p.m. Friday by Portage police on a warrant.

She was placed in a padded cell after being deemed a threat to herself and others following a suicide screening, police said.

A jail officer reportedly found her unresponsive with shallow breathing at 12:30 a.m. and she was treated by jail medical staff before being taken to Porter Regional Hospital where she later died.
