VALPARAISO | A 30-year-old woman from Ogden Dunes died early Saturday morning at the Porter County Jail shortly after she was taken into custody. The name of the woman has not been released by the Porter County coroner.

According to Sgt. Larry LaFlower, Porter County sheriff's police public information officer, Portage police brought the woman to Porter County Jail  at approximately 10:15 p.m. on a warrant.

He said the inmate went through the booking process and was placed in a padded cell, after being deemed a threat to herself and others following a suicide screening.

Shortly after midnight, at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a jail officer found the woman unresponsive with shallow breathing. Jail medical staff responded to aid her until emergency medical assistance arrived. The woman was transported to Porter Regional Hospital where she later died.

LaFlower said the woman's name wasn't been released until her family was notified. He said the coroner will release her name once notification has been made, along with an autopsy performed with toxicology testing.
