Officers arrested nine people Saturday at an underage drinking party near Westville, LaPorter County police said.

Officers about 1:30 a.m. Saturday responded to an apartment at University Park Village along U.S. 421 north of Westville, police said.

Officers heard loud music and talking from the apartment and found several people holding cans of beer outside a back sliding glass door, police said.

About a half-dozen of the partygoers fled out the front door, police said.

The renter, Charlie Johnson, 18, was taken to LaPorte County Jail on an underage drinking charge.

Also charged with underage drinking were Blake Buczek, 18; Michelle Zelenika, 19; Whitney Underwood, 18; Russell Fields, 19; and Tyler Chambers, 19, all of Valparaiso, along with Courtney Dawson, 19, of Union Mills, and Elena Delnicki, 18, of Gary.

The seven minors along with a 17-year-old juvenile were cited and given court dates then allowed to leave with their parents, police said. Police said there were numerous beer cans in the apartment sitting on a table and kitchen counter.
