PORTAGE | An 18-year-old alleged gang member was arrested Friday morning after Portage Police Department SWAT Team members swarmed his mobile home.
About 9 a.m. Friday, officers entered the home in the 1400 block of Camelot Manor and took Tevin Carlisle into custody.
Police said Carlisle was wanted on active felony warrants for alleged criminal gang activity and intimidation. Officers also said Carlisle is a member of the Insane King Cobras, a gang founded in the 1980s on the South Side of Chicago.
In searching the home, officers confiscated an SKS assault rifle, a 20-gauge shotgun, a semiautomatic handgun, numerous round of ammunition, a number of large knives, prescription pills, gang paraphernalia and more than $500 cash.
Police said additional charges are pending based on what was recovered inside the residence.
Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said the department will aggressively combat gang activity.
"Those that choose to participate in this type of behavior can expect the same response," Williams said. "We are committed to protecting the residents and ensure we have a safe community for our children to grow up in."
