PORTAGE | Burn those calories before you even eat them at the Portage Township YMCA’s 13th annual Turkey Trot. This 4 Mile Run/5K Non-Competitive Walk and 1K Kids Fun Run will take place at 7:15 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. The walking and running courses will start and finish at the Portage Township YMCA and utilize the Rails to Trails.
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will go toward the Portage Township YMCA’s Annual Campaign which provides financial assistance for children and families that are not able to afford programs and services at the Y. Awards will be presented after the race for the 4 Mile runners. The event will feature computerized chip timing system. Participants can register at www.ymcaofportage.org and download a registration form or register on-line at the same website. For those who missed the pre-registration deadline, commemorative long sleeve shirts will be available for purchase at the event for $10. Walk in registration will take place Thanksgiving morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. “This event is important for so many reasons,” said new CEO Chris Aungst. “It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to get out and exercise on a festive day. And everyone who participates is supporting our cause to enable families and individuals in need to participate in youth and wellness services.” It is anticipated that this event will bring out more than 400 runners and walkers.
