PORTAGE | Police are investigating the armed robbery Thursday morning of Steak ‘n Shake, 6231 U.S. 6., where workers said one man with a knife and another with a gun entered the store and demanded money from the cash register.
Police were called about 4:40 a.m. Thursday to the restaurant. Employees told them there were no customers in the restaurant, so both employees were in the kitchen cleaning when a man with a knife snuck up behind one of them and demanded money from the cash register.
The employees said a second man, standing next to the cash register was pointing a gun at them.
Both men were wearing masks.
The man with the knife was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, wearing dark clothing, gloves and aviator style glasses. He was carrying a black-handled knife with a silver blade. Employees said he was wearing a ski mask.
The second man was described as 6 feet, 3 inches tall, wearing dark clothing, gloves and some type of mask to hide his face. Police said he brandished a black handgun with a chrome barrel.
The two workers were ordered to lie on the floor when the robbers fled, police said.
Police searched the area and spoke to employees at nearby businesses, but did not make any arrests.
