PORTAGE | An autopsy has revealed that Monday's Portage homicide victim died of a single gunshot wound to the left side of the neck, according to Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.
The autopsy was performed Tuesday on Wilson Rivera, 38, of Indianapolis, who had lived in Gary as recently as last summer.
Police are continuing their investigation and had no updates as of Wednesday morning.
Rivera, who is the city's second homicide victim in slightly more than a month, was found dead outside a car in a residential driveway in the 2100 block of Crisman Road.
The caller told 911 told dispatchers a person was running east along the railroad tracks in the wooded area just after the gunshot was heard.
A search Monday involving a police dog and helicopter failed to apprehend a suspect.
Police said they do not believe the homicide was a random shooting and that the victim possibly knew who shot him.
Police ask anyone with information about this investigation to call detectives at (219) 762-3122.
