PORTAGE | The Portage Park Board this week approved advertising for bids for the construction of an elevator in the main building at Woodland Park.
Park Superintendent Jenny Orsburn said the project will be advertised with bids due by Jan. 17 and opened at the board's Jan. 21 building.
The proposal will call for the construction of the elevator to be completed by the end of April.
Orsburn said they do not have a cost estimate for the project. She said the parks intention is to approach the city's Redevelopment Commission for funding of the elevator.
In other business, the board approved sending a letter to the Redevelopment Commission giving their approval for the demolition of the Portage Yacht Club building just off of Ind. 249. The building is owned by the commission, but managed by the parks department, which rents various halls within the building.
Earlier this year the commission discussed the pros and cons of renovating the building, but determined the project would be too costly and demolition was a more viable option.
