VALPARAISO | Bond was set Friday at $40,000 surety or $5,000 cash for a 19-year-old Portage man accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions.
Keith Basso is charged with a Class D felony count of sexual misconduct with a minor and faces six months to three years behind bars if convicted.
The girl reportedly told police the abuse started in August and occurred on four occasions through December.
Basso admitted to touching the girl inappropriately on four occasions and said he knew her young age, according to police.
During a hearing Friday before Porter Superior Court Judge Bill Alexa, Deputy Prosecutor Mike Drenth said Basso was involved in a similar situation as a juvenile in Nevada.
Basso told Alexa he did not know where he would go if he bonds out of jail.
He was appointed the services of a public defender after showing he cannot afford to hire a private attorney.
His case is set for trial June 3, with preliminary hearings April 1 and April 29.
