PORTAGE | The Portage Redevelopment Commission has awarded a contract for repairs to City Hall.
Gough Construction, Inc., presented the lowest of nine bids received for the project. The base bid was $351,500.
However, officials noted, that price will climb by $8,000. City Engineer John Hannon said Gough has been asked to replace the window installation subcontractor with another.
Replacing the windows is part of the project. The present windows were installed about 15 years ago and, Hannon said, "from the day they were put in were problematic."
The original subcontractor with the Gough bid was the same one who installed those windows.
Even with the $8,000 additional cost, Hannon said, Gough had the lowest bid.
The work will include, in addition to replacing windows, sills and lintels, reroofing the building and sealing the exterior brick.
