PORTAGE | A report of a burglary to a garage led to the arrest not only of the two alleged burglars, but also of a juvenile who was allegedly dealing drugs from the garage.
Police were called to a home in the 5700 block of Brookview Avenue early Saturday.
At the residence, police spoke with an adult and the adult's 17-year-old brother who lives there.
Officers said while talking with the 17-year-old in the garage, the juvenile seemed nervous, checking a dresser that was stored in the garage. Officers walked to the area and saw several multi-colored glass smoking pipes, prescription pills, hashish, several bags of marijuana totaling 214 grams and a pistol.
The juvenile told police he was holding the pistol for a friend.
After further questioning, the juvenile allegedly admitted to selling marijuana. He told police he sells about $500 a week of the "good stuff" and recently had purchased $3,000 of high-grade marijuana to resell.
The juvenile was arrested for dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia and taken to the juvenile detention center.
While at the Brookview residence, police spoke with a neighbor who said they had written down the license plate number of a vehicle seen in the area because the subjects in the car were making noise.
Police traced the vehicle back to Jayshon Brown and went to Brown's home, 2927 Airport Road. Brown, 18, admitted to being at the Brookview address and told police he was with a friend, Seth White, and had dropped White off at an address on Piedmont Road in South Haven.
Police allegedly found hashish in Brown's vehicle. He was charged with burglary and possession of hashish. Brown also took police to the address at which he left White.
Police found White, 18, of 726-1 Fox River Road, South Haven, at the Piedmont address. Police located items and drugs they believe he stole in the burglary. He was arrested for burglary, possession of marijuana, possession of hashish and possession of paraphernalia.
