PORTAGE | A 29-year-old Portage man was allegedly beaten by a friend after they argued at a city restaurant Thursday afternoon.
The friend, Joshua Akins, 28, of Portage was charged with battery causing an injury.
According to the police report, Akins, the victim, another man and a woman were having lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings, 6530 U.S. 6 in Portage, when Akins and the victim began arguing over a previous incident.
Akins told police he received his bill and went to leave and the victim followed him and tackled him to the ground outside the restaurant. Akins told police he then got on top of the victim and struck him three times.
Another witness told police the two argued, then decided to go outside to fight. When she followed, she said she saw the victim on the ground and Akins punching him in the head and face and beating the victim's head into the concrete. She told police the victim was unresponsive for a time.
A restaurant manager also told police the victim was unconscious and unresponsive for several minutes after the incident.
The victim suffered injuries to his face, including a bloody nose and mouth, bruised and swollen eye and a bruise to his temple on the left side of his face. He was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
Akins was also transported to a local hospital after telling police he had recently had surgery and the fight had caused the incision to reopen. He was medically cleared before being transported to Porter County Jail.
