PORTAGE | A Portage man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly making bomb threats at the Walmart, 6087 U.S. 6.

Bradley R. Heideman, 20, of 6341 Monument, was charged with theft, but could face additional charges after police said he gave a Walmart employee a note that stated "he would blow up the world."

According to a police report, Heideman came to the front service counter of the retailer just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and asked the employee if he could make a page over the store's public address system. When the employee began questioning him, Heideman allegedly asked for a piece of paper to write down the message.

Heideman wrote, "If Bradley Ray Heideman loses (woman's name) as his girlfriend he will blow up the world - Michael."

He then left the counter and the employee called police.

A woman who was entering Walmart at the same time as Heideman told police she heard Heideman "yelling extremely loud and walking very fast" into the store and threatening to blow up the store. The woman told store management.

Police viewed video from the Walmart, which showed Heideman walking around various areas of the store before approaching the counter, but did not see Heideman leave anything behind or throw anything away. Store management also checked areas of the store where Heideman had been spotted, but did not find anything suspicious or out of place. The store was not evacuated.

The images did allegedly show Heideman taking three packages of cold medicine from the store's shelf.

Police searched for Heideman at various addresses with which they knew he was associated. Shortly after 9 p.m., they received a tip that Heideman was at Kohl's.

Police arrived at Kohl's, 6495 U.S. 6, and took Heideman into custody.

Heideman was charged with felony theft and police forwarded reports to the Porter County Prosecutor's office for possible further charges.
