PORTAGE | Midwest Family Federal Credit Union is hosting a Free Community Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. A shredding truck will be on-site in the parking lot at 2832 Willowcreek Road. This free event is open to the public. There is a two-banker box shred limit per household.
Protect identity by shredding old statements, bills, expired tax documents, or any paper with name, address, Social Security number, or account number printed on it. Watch the on-board camera as confidential documents are shred into particles as small as 3/8 inch. Secure Shred, a division of Opportunity Enterprises, owns and operates the shred truck and will help to recycle the destroyed documents into new paper products.
President and CEO, John Peterson, talks about last year’s shred day event, “Our intention was to deter identity theft by giving residents a free and easy way to destroy their mounting piles of bills and statements. We found that we actually helped people in deeper and more meaningful ways. Folks overwhelmed with paper like local business owners, young families, and those that had recently lost parents or spouses expressed such genuine gratitude for the service that we were eager to offer this opportunity again.”
