PORTAGE | Eight people were arrested Monday when police broke up an underage drinking party.

Police were called to the 5600 block of Bremen just after 4 a.m. Monday on a report of people running through the neighborhood vandalizing property.

The officer approached a home and could hear people yelling inside about the police and then the lights went out.

Louis Escobedo, 18, of 5679 Bremen, answered the door and told the officer everything was fine, but the officer recognized signs of intoxication.

A 17-year-old girl came to the girl and told Escobedo not to talk to police. The girl remained uncooperative with police and was eventually arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement and false informing. She was transported to the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center.

When police entered the home, they found Jacob Gomez, 18, of 6828 Trailside, Portage, hiding in an upstairs room.

Gomez and Escobedo tested positive for alcohol consumption and were arrested on minor consuming charges.

As police continued investigated, they saw a car driving by the home. An officer stopped the car and found three of the four occupants had been allegedly drinking at the party. They were Alex Geros, 18, of 5079 Boulder, Portage; Joshua Wright, 18, of 3635 Allison, Portage and Kendal Glover, 18, of 5656 Bremen, Portage.

Another man, Devin Turney, 18, of 381 Stonehill Drive, South Haven was later found walking in the area without any shoes and told police he had been at the house on Bremen. He also tested positive for alcohol consumption and was arrested on a minor consumption charge.

The eighth individual, Henry Richardson Jr., 18 of 5940 Old Porter Road No. 102, Portage was found hiding in a closet, under a pile of clothing. When ordered out, he refused and was pulled out by police and was uncooperative. He was arrested on an allegation of resisting law enforcement.

The seven 18-year-old men were transported to Porter County Jail.
