PORTAGE | A Speedway gas station employee told police two men attacked her and attempted to rob the business early Saturday.
The attendant said she had no customers and stepped outside to smoke a cigarette about 3:40 a.m. when one of the men grabbed her from behind, forced the hood of her sweatshirt over her face and demanded the keys to the business safe, police said.
The woman said she attempted to burn that man with her cigarette, and he let go as a vehicle drove into the parking lot. The men — one wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing a blue and yellow blanket or poncho — then walked casually toward County Line Road, police said.
The individuals who pulled up in the vehicle told police the same story and said they went looking for the men after making sure the attendant was OK.
Police said they also searched the area with the help of a dog but were unable to find the suspects.
