PORTAGE | Firehouse Subs will open a retail space at 6536 U.S. 6, according to a news release issued Thursday by the company.
The shop should be open sometime by mid-summer.
The franchise will occupy 2,037 square feet of retail space in the development owned owned by Route 6 Development LLC.
Firehouse Subs has more than 580 locations throughout 33 states, this being the company's first in Porter County. There already is a location in Munster and another store opening soon in Hobart.
The company plans to reach 2,000 locations by 2020. Firehouse Subs is known for its exceptional meats and oversized sub sandwiches, according to the release.
Firehouse Subs also is actively involved in raising donations through its previously established nonprofit foundation, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The foundation helps to provide funding to first responders and public safety organizations.
