PORTAGE | Kenneth J. Allen and wife Nina were handing out bags of food to people in Portage and Gary on Thursday.

Allen, of the Kenneth J. Allen Law Group, gave out 1,000 Thanksgiving dinners in all, enough to feed about 4,000 people. The dinners were distributed at Portage Catholic Charities and Lake County Catholic Charities in Gary. The bags contained ham, potatoes, side dish ingredients and, of course, pumpkin pie.

"We've done this for years, but have expanded it to include Porter County this year," said Allen." As we've been blessed, we want to spread our blessings to others."

Jackie Nairn, case manager for Catholic Chartities in Portage, said the agency is grateful to the Allens for their donations. "They made this possible for people to get dinners for Thanksgiving," she said.

Dave Glowczynski, of Burns Harbor, was surprised when he got a call to pick up a bag of food. "This has been a rough year," he said. "This will definitely help."
