PORTAGE | A Gary man was arrested Thursday afternoon after leading police on a chase with his 11-year-old son in the car.
Danielle L. Jackson, 30, was charged with two counts of resisting law enforcement, neglect of a dependent, criminal recklessness and drivaing while suspended.
The chase started just after 1 p.m. after police had earlier in the day received information about a possible drug deal involving Jackson.
When police attempted to arrest Jackson following the drug transaction in a restaurant parking lot on U.S. 20, Jackson took off eastbound on U.S. 20 and police followed. Jackson continued to try to evade police, driving into Burns Harbor, cutting through a business parking lot, heading west onto Old Porter Road then north onto Salt Creek Road and again east on U.S. 20 before turning into a parking lot of a business in the 300 block of U.S. 20 in Burns Harbor.
According to the report, Jackson initially exited his SUV with his hands up but then quickly put them down, making movements in and out of the vehicle.
Eventually police took Jackson to the ground where he sustained small cuts and abrasions. He was initially transported to Porter Portage Hospital Campus, medically cleared and then taken to Porter County Jail.
Police also found Jackson's 11-year-old son in the vehicle. The boy was taken to the Portage police station and eventually released to family members.
