VALPARAISO | The small 8-year-old girl sat dwarfed by the witness stand Tuesday morning as she told a jury in a hushed tone how Scott Nicol had taken into her into a dark bathroom and made her perform a sex act on him.

"I pulled back," she said of the incident that occurred when she was 6. "He told me to stop."

The girl also accused 54-year-old Nicol of touching her inappropriately while she tried to sleep.

"How did you know it was Scotty?" asked Porter County Deputy Prosecutor Tammy Gregg.

"'Cause I peeked at him," the girl replied.

The girl and one other, who is a couple years older, accused Nicol of molesting them during a period of January 2010 and August 2011 in Portage.

Nicol is on trial this week for two A felony and two C felony counts of child molesting. Each A felony carries a potential sentence of 20 to 50 years behind bars.

Fort Wayne defense attorney Richard Thonert told jurors Tuesday that Nicol is not guilty.

He then questioned the young girl, who confirmed she did not initially tell police about the bathroom incident or another when Nicol allegedly had the girl lay on top of him.

The girl remained quiet when Thonert asked her if she remembered telling police no one touched her inappropriately.

Gregg said the girls first revealed the abuse to a babysitter.

The older girl said she did not tell her mother about the abuse because she believed she would wind up in trouble, according to police.

The girls' mother told police she knew nothing of the abuse, but said the girls had exhibited behavioral issues. The older girls let her grades slip and began lying, she said.

The younger girl started having "accidents," the mother said.
