PORTAGE | The city will host a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new University Center-Portage building at 10 a.m. Thursday at the construction site on Central Avenue.

The $6.1 million two-story brick building will be constructed by the team of Gough Inc., of Merrillville; CSK Architects of Schererville and SEH, of Munster.

The approximate 32,000-square-foot building will house higher education classes in Portage for Indiana University Northwest, Purdue University North Central, Valparaiso University, Ivy Tech Community College and offices for WorkOne.

The building will be located on the site of the former Dollar General store in the city's downtown redevelopment area.
