PORTAGE | A resident was hiding birthday presents from her husband in the trunk of her car.
Her husband didn't find them, but apparently a burglar did.
The resident, who lives in the 3100 block of May Street, told Portage police on Monday morning that someone allegedly entered her unlocked detached garage between the evening of Nov. 24 and Monday morning and took $10,000 worth of clothing and a $4,000 diamond ring from the trunk of her car.
The victim told police that the car was inside her detached garage. The main door on the garage does not have a working lock. The car also was unlocked inside the garage and the vehicle's trunk is accessible from the interior of the car.
