PORTAGE | A Hobart man was arrested early Tuesday on charges alleging he huffed aerosol deodorant in the health and beauty aisle of a local retailer.
Todd Lunsford, 24, was arrested shortly after midnight at Walmart, 6087 U.S. 6, police said. Lunsford is expected to face charges of possession of a controlled substance, theft, inhaling toxic vapors and public intoxication. He also had two active warrants, one from Porter County and the other from Lake County.
Walmart employees saw Lunsford huffing deodorant in the health and beauty section of the store and reported the activity to the manager, police said. When an employee tried to talk to Lunsford, he mumbled back and continued to walk to the clothing section of the store, where he started to put clothing on over his own clothing, police said.
When police arrived, they found Lunsford in the automotive section of the store, allegedly wearing clothing with sales tags still on them.
Lunsford was taken to Porter County Jail, and his car was impounded, police said. During an inventory, generic Xanax and green plant-like material believed to be synthetic marijuana were found in the car, police said.
