PORTAGE | A horse died Monday after falling from a moving trailer on Interstate 94 near the Portage exit, Indiana State Police said.

The 8-year-old sorrel quarter horse fell after kicking the rear door of the trailer about 11:30 a.m., according to a press release from the Indiana State Police. The trailer was pulled by a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Perea Esequias Junior, 31, of Keene, Texas.

The horse broke one of his legs and was put down at the scene, police said.

The incident temporarily closed I-94, police said.
