Kindergarten Round Up in the Portage Township Schools will be April 2. Hours are 9:30 to 11 a.m.; 1 to 2:30 and 6 to 7 p.m., at each elementary school for children who will be five years of age on or before Aug. 1. Parents may register online prior to visiting the schools.
Bring your child to kindergarten round-up and receive a “Bright Beginnings” pack back with supplies and activities to help you prepare your child for kindergarten.
The registration process can be started online at http://registration.portage.k12.in.us. This process will require about 30 minutes, will collect all of the necessary information on your child, and will provide any additional necessary forms. Those without computers may complete the online process at the school in which your child will be attending.
On the date of Round Up, you will also sign up to bring your child back in August for the Kindergarten Assessment.
At Round Up, you will need to bring the child’s: birth certificate, proof of immunization, Social Security number, guardianshop papers if applicable and two documents to verify residentcy.
Also please provide two documents from the following list: lease agreement, mortgage papers, driver's licence, NIPSCO, water or sewer bill or bill with home address or phone bill with mailing address, guardianship papers,
Parents are encouraged to bring their kindergarten child to the school to become familiar with the setting. Information on the Kindergarten Program will be distributed. Fees will not be collected until registration in July and may be submitted online.
The parents of children who will turn five years of age on Aug. 2 and before Sept. 1 may request a "waiver" of the state adopted kindergarten school entrance date. Requests for a waiver of the kindergarten entrance date will be accepted at each school until Aug. 4 Details for submitting a waiver request, or any other information regarding kindergarten enrollment, may be obtained from each elementary school office.
